Currently the subsoil mulcher is available in three sizes ranging from 76” to 103” with a choice of two different rotors for processing material. Our applications experts are available to assist you in choosing a width and rotor combination, but as a general rule, the smallest unit is best for tool carriers on the lower end of our required performance spectrum while the largest unit is reserved for those on the highest end of the spectrum with the mid-sized unit being a good balance in-between.

As with any ground-engaging attachment, the more surface area that must work through the soil, the higher horsepower and hydraulic flow is required. This power requirement is not linear, but rather logarithmic, meaning that with a wider rotor, a substantial bump in performance is required from the tool carrier that drives it. Using a wider rotor on a lower powered machine will limit the depth of mulching achievable and the general efficiency of the processing work.

The universal rotor is more versatile and suitable for a wide range of tasks, including mulching, grinding, and conditioning soil in various applications such as land clearing and landscaping. How quickly can the subsoil mulcher complete typical land clearing and soil conditioning tasks?

The speed of operation varies depending upon the specific characteristics of your soil, topography, material density, and other factors. Generally, operators of our implement can clear between 1.5 and 2 acres daily, from moderate brush and saplings to a final smooth/clear soil condition.

What are the efficiency benefits of the subsoil mulcher compared to other machines?

The efficiency comes from several dimensions: the efficient fuel consumption of a skid steer or track loader, the high level of maneuverability and reduced “back-and-forth” motion, and the ability to move through a wide range of projects in less time. While it is difficult to make a specific measurement, because this one attachment replaces at least three others, substantial efficiency gains are realized.

What are the initial costs and long-term maintenance costs of the subsoil mulcher?

Depending upon the model and rotor selection, the initial purchase cost ranges from $42,000 to $58,000. Ongoing maintenance is comparable to similar implements, requiring only regular lubrication and inspection. The forestry rotor allows for replacement of individual teeth, as needed, which can be ordered from us.

Are there any warranties or service packages available for the subsoil mulcher?

Yes, your original purchase is covered for a period of 2 years. We do not currently offer an ongoing service package, as the routine maintenance is fairly basic and familiar to most operators of similar equipment – we recommend lubrication after each 4 hours of use and an inspection of key components after each 20 hours of operation.

How quickly can the subsoil mulcher complete typical right-of-way clearing and soil conditioning tasks?

It’s tough to provide a specific answer to that, but we find that operators report a significant gain in efficiency resulting from the range of tasks that can be handled by this product. Not waiting for another operator to arrive, or making the swap to another implement, saves precious on-the-job time and gets to a finished project quickly.

How can we improve the efficiency of our vegetation management processes?

The Subsoil Mulcher provides two important benefits: it extends the time between clearing treatments by thoroughly eliminating all of the active vegetation, and it returns organic material to the soil, building a richer base for new, intentional plant growth. Of course, weeds will take over if other desirable material is not planted, and bare soil will be subject to erosion if groundcover is not reestablished.

How can we better balance operational needs with environmental compliance?

The Coneteks Subsoil Mulcher provides a fast, efficient way to remove surface material and utilizes the resulting mulch to improve soil quality – you get the clearing that you need while contributing to a rich soil environment with the added organic material. Alternative methods – which typically require aggressive root raking and burning of the resulting material – are a thing of the past.

What does the subsoil mulcher do to prevent regrowth?

By reaching deeper into the soil, the implement does a more thorough job of removing all of the existing growth, and mulching it to the point that regrowth is minimized. This attachment reaches deeper into the ground, grinding the root system as well as the exposed plant material.

How does the subsoil mulcher enhance soil quality?

Organic material is removed from above and below the soil surface, mulched to a very fine mix, and then buried – so the soil is enriched by the decomposing organic material over time.

Can the subsoil mulcher handle dense vegetation and large stumps typical in forestry operations?

While we don’t represent that the Subsoil Mulcher is as effective as a dedicated forestry machine for removal of large stumps, it is more than robust enough to handle many typical stump removal challenges – and your ability to tackle those tasks without the need to swap equipment brings significant efficiency to your work.

What are the benefits of the subsoil mulcher’s mulching capability for soil preparation and reforestation?

The action of the machine leaves the soil very clean – with a minimum of residual plant material on the surface – and smooth. After you work with the subsoil mulcher, you can immediately move forward with new planting or other next steps of your project.

Are there minimum performance requirements for the host machine?

Yes. In order to get effective performance, we recommend a minimum of 75 horsepower, and a hydraulic flow rate of between 28 and 52 gallons per minute.
